The restaurant at the end of the multiverse

Four people are stranded in the middle of nowhere and come across a rickety bridge. The bridge can only hold 2 people at a time - any more and the bridge will collapse. The bridge has gaps in it and is too dark to cross without any lights. The group have one torch.

John can cross the bridge in 1 minute. Tom can cross it in 2, Dave can cross it in 5, and Simon can cross it in 10 minutes.

The bridge will collapse in exactly 17 minutes.

How can all four cross the bridge safely?

John leaves the torch midway cross the bridge and they're all over and done with it in 10.5 minutes. Simon takes the torch in order to defend himself when the other four start calling him a sissy for taking the entire ten minutes to cross. Later they use it to fry some crabs that Dave caught in the river (yes, he fell over inspite of the fact that the bridge was well lit). They all sing Kumba-ya round the campfire.

so, please, tell us...who succeeded in crossing the bridge before it collapsed?? who was drowned?? who was bearing the lamp at his feet?? who's going to build a new bridge?? and all the details of the story...:))

pa napisal sam dole kak pređu i nazbrojil, gotofo, spasih ljudove i odjahah u svitanje i tak...;) dobro ajde, u biti sam se sjetil te pitalice, sretoh je u malo drugačijem obliku jednoć...;)
