Vincent van Gogh (Zundert, 30. ožujka 1853. - Anvers-sur-Oise, 29. srpnja 1890.), nizozemski slikar, grafičar i crtač


Sedam je godina proživio kao namještenik u Haagu, a zatim je poslan u podružnicu Goupila u London (1873-76). U toj je trgovini slika dobio ne samo uvid u slikarstvo, već se i sam zainteresirao za slikanje te nastojao postati slikar. Prvi Van Goghovi crteži nastaju pod utjecajem idealista Milleta u Belgiji. 1881. upoznaje se sa slikarom Mauveom, a taj ga poznati slikar bodri, upućuje i prvi mu daje savjete kako bi trebao postupiti likovnim rješavanjima. Nakon kratkog boravka u Haagu odlazi u Brabant. U njegovom se likovnom izrazu tada počinje sve više i sve jasnije stavljati značajna crta humanitarne zanesenosti. Gogh se strastveno obraća prikazivanju života seljaka i radnika, koji se pate i muče na svojoj zemlji, da bi joj u svojoj bijedi istrgli nasušni hljeb. U tome razdoblju radi tamne male slike, gotovo sve u crnom. Te su slike blijede, izražajne, a uz to brutalne do karikature. Svi su ti likovi sumorni, i oni nacrtani i oni naslikani. Slikala ih je i crtala svijest osjetljive ćudi, koja je u životu od rana osjećala izolaciju i tjeskobu i redom proživljavala krize. Usred svih tih kriza i protuslovlja odlučuje se Gogh uporno i upravo strastveno za slikarstvo. Van Gogh čitavo vrijeme strastveno crta kao fanatični autodidakt koji istovremeno i traži i prima savjete sa svih strana. Štoviše, tri mjeseca boravi na akademiji u Antwerpenu, da bi nadoknadio svoje nedostatke u crtanju. No njegova ga je nemirna priroda tjerala u Pariz, kamo ga je zvao brat Théo. Početkom 1886. dolazi u Pariz i postaje đak Cormonov, te u ove četiri godine do smrti Van Gogh doživljuje svoju veliku evoluciju. Već 1887. njegova se paleta radikalno mijenja: prema prijašnjem sumornom načinu čini se ta promjena kao regeneracija. Očituju se značajke arabeske u svježim otvorenim bojama, forma postaje dekorativna uz potcrtani grafizam. Van Gogh traži sintezu u pojednostavljenju. Novi se način Van Goghov ispoljava sve jače i snažnije: isključuju se sjene i svaka modelacija. On primjenjuje čistu otvorenu skalu boja, a oblike konturira tamnom bojom. 1888. izbacuje gotovo sliku za slikom. Uz to su se njegove boje pod mediteranskim nebom zažarile, zasjale i zablistale kao da je u njima iskričavo svjetlo samoga Sunca. Van Gogh slikao je i samo Sunce u punom žaru.

Gauguin je stigao u Arles na poziv van Gogha, da bi se oživotvorio dugogodišnji san mnogih slikara o tome, kako bi se okupili na zajedničkom radu vani u prirodi. Vrlo brzo se pokazalo, da između njih postoje nepremostive suprotnosti: došlo je tako daleko, da je jedne noći u diskusiji Van Gogh u svom neuravnoteženom stanju navalio na Gauguina da ga zakolje. Dostajao je samo jedan Gauguinov pogled, da se Van Gogh osvijesti i da namah sam sebe kazni. Reže britvom vlastito uho i odnosi ga bludnicama u javnu kuću, te pada u težak i bolan grč epileptika. Gauguin odlazi u Pariz, a Van Gogh u psihijatrijsku bolnicu. Svjestan je da je u ludnici, ali između pojedinih nastupa strastveno radi - njegove boje kao da su dobile još više na intenzitetu. Bez predaha slika i crta, grčevito radi. Radi manijakalno, suludo, divlje. Radom nastoji nadbiti i samo ludilo, te svoje krize što se periodički ponavljaju. Kod njega se izmjenjuju časovi lucidnosti s teškim klonućima.

Zvjezdana noć, 1889. g.
8. svibnja 1889. dolazi u Saint-Rémy-de-Provence u Provansi na bolničko liječenje. Tamo je počeo slikati čemprese i masline, a nastala je još jedna čuvena slika Zvjezdana noć. Svom je bratu Théu napisao:

„Vječno je pitanje, je li nam dano da prije smrti spoznamo samo jednu hemisferu. Što se mene tiče, odgovora nema, ali zvijezde me uvijek potiču na razmišljanje.“

Godine 1890. seli se u Auvers-sur-Oise na liječenje kod dr. Paula Gacheta kako bi bio bliže svom bratu. Prvi dojam Van Gogha o dr. Gachetu bio je: "mislim da je bolesniji od mene, ili možemo reći jednako". Dr. Gachet je Van Gogha pretpostavlja se liječio biljkom crvenim naprstkom, s kojom je Van Gogh i naslikao liječnika, a danas se smatra da je ta biljka možda i djelovala na slikarevu percepciju žute boje, s obzirom da pacijenti koji se njome liječe vide sve oko sebe žućkasto. Osim toga sumnja se također da su ga mučile shizofrenija i manična depresija, koje također utječu na percepciju stvarnosti i raspoloženje.

Vjerojatno je jedna od posljednih njegovih slika što ih je naslikao Pšenična polja s vranama ili Žitno polje s gavranima. U 37. godini, 27. srpnja, depresivan, uznemiren, u trenutku paničnog predosjećaja strave pred novim nastupom hvata revolver. U polju kraj puta naslanja se na deblo koje je slikao i odapinje oružje. Umire nakon dva dana u svom krevetu. Pokopan je u Auvers-sur-Oiseu uz svog brata Théa koji je preminuo 6 mjeseci kasnije.

Van Gogh je prethodnik čitavog europskog ekspresionizma po tome, što je strastveno pokušavao izraziti u svojim slikama ono što se ne može izraziti. On je jedan od prvih umjetnika, koji je deformirao prirodni oblik, da bi postigao što jaču i intezivniju izražajnost. Svaki je njegov autoportret dio njegove autobiografije i u njima se odrazuje drama njegove životne putanje. Njegov je utjecaj nadasve velik u čitavom svjetskom slikarstvu. Ostavio je velik opus (850 slika i više od 900 crteža i akvarela) razasut po mnogim galerijama Europe i Amerike.

Lana Del Rey - You Can Be the Boss


Elizabeth Grant (born June 21, 1986) better known by her stage name Lana Del Rey is an American singer-songwriter. Her stage name is a combination of the late old Hollywood actress Lana Turner and the Ford Del Rey.[6][7][8][9]
Her song "Video Games" was named "Best New Track" by Pitchfork Media and was featured on The CW TV-Series Ringer.[17] Grant played her first US show at The Box in New York City on September 21, 2011.[18] Her debut single "Video Games"/"Blue Jeans" was released by Stranger Records on vinyl on October 10, 2011 and digitally the following day.[18] Tickets for Grant's show in London sold out in half an hour.[9]
The EP for both of the singles "Video Games" and "Blue Jeans" reached the top five of the US iTunes Albums Chart only hours after its release. On October 11, 2011 she performed "Video Games" live on Later... with Jools Holland, her first live performance on UK television.
On October 17, 2011, the single's UK release date, Bombay Bicycle Club covered "Video Games" in BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge.[19] Kasabian subsequently covered the track on October 26 as part of Radio 1's Live Lounge Student tour.[20]
On Monday, November 7, 2011, "Video Games" was featured on Gossip Girl.

British experimental musician David Tibet of Current 93 heard a demo and offered to release Antony's music through his Durtro label. The debut album, Antony and the Johnsons, was released in 1998. In 2001, Hegarty released a short follow-up EP, I Fell in Love with a Dead Boy, which, in addition to the title track, included a cover of "Mysteries of Love", a David Lynch/Angelo Badalamenti song and "Soft Black Stars", a Current 93 cover.

Producer Hal Willner heard the EP and played it to Lou Reed, who immediately recruited him for his project The Raven. Now gaining more attention, Hegarty signed to US-based record label Secretly Canadian, and released another EP, The Lake, with Lou Reed guest-performing on one of the tracks. Secretly Canadian also re-released Hegarty's debut album in the United States to wider distribution in 2004.

Antony's second full-length album, 2005's I Am a Bird Now, was greeted with positive reviews and significantly more mainstream attention. The album featured guest appearances by Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Boy George and Devendra Banhart, and circled themes of duality and transformation. I Am a Bird Now featured arrangements by Maxim Moston and Julia Kent and was mixed by Doug Henderson. In September 2005 Antony and the Johnsons were awarded the Mercury Prize[1] for the best UK album of 2005. Rival Mercury nominees, and favorites for the prize, the Kaiser Chiefs suggested that Antony got in on a technicality; despite the fact he was born in the United Kingdom he spent much of his time in the US — although they later apologized for the suggestion that he wasn't a deserving winner.

Antony and the Johnsons collaborated with experimental film-maker Charles Atlas and presented TURNING in November 2006 in Rome, London, Paris, Madrid, and Braga. Thirteen of New York City's most enigmatic women were presented in intimate live video portraits during the course of the concert.[2] The Guardian called the piece "fragile, life affirming, and truly wonderful (five stars)". Le Monde in Paris hailed TURNING as "Concert-manifeste transsexuel".

In 2006, the song Bird Gerhl was used in V for Vendetta. It was also included in the soundtrack released by Astralwerks Records, which featured artists such as Julie London and Cat Power along with instrumental work by composer Dario Marianelli.

Antony and the Johnsons' 5-song Another World EP was released on October 7, 2008. Antony and the Johnsons' third album, The Crying Light,[3] was released on January 19, 2009 and went to #1 on the European Billboard charts.[4] Antony has described the theme of the album as being "about landscape and the future".[5] Nature, death, love and the role of the artist were explored across ten tracks, which included the single "Epilepsy Is Dancing." The album was mixed by Bryce Goggin and included arrangements by Nico Muhly.

Ann Powers wrote of The Crying Light for the LA Times online, “it's the most personal environmentalist statement possible, making an unforeseen connection between queer culture's identity politics and the green movement. As music, it's simply exquisite -- more controlled and considered than anything Antony and the Johnsons have done and sure to linger in the minds of listeners." [6]

After touring throughout North America and Europe in support of their new album, Antony and the Johnsons presented a unique staging of The Crying Light with the Manchester Camerata at the Manchester Opera House for the 2009 Manchester International Festival. The concert hall was transformed into a crystal cave filled with laser effects created by installation artist Chris Levine. Antony and the Johnsons went on to present concerts with symphonies across Europe in Summer 2009, including the Opera Orchestra of Lyon, the Metropole Orchestra, Roma Sinfonietta and the Montreux Jazz Festival Orchestra. At Salle Playel in Paris, Antony appeared in a costume designed for him by Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy.

After two sold out concerts at the Sydney Opera House, Antony and the Johnsons ended their recent touring in February 2010 in Tokyo. Antony, Johanna Constantine and William Basinski performed at the Sogetsu Hall with butoh master Yoshito Ohno, the son of the 103 year-old dancer Kazuo Ohno, whose image graces the cover of The Crying Light.[7] Kazuo Ohno passed away in June of that year, and Antony wrote an obituary for the dancer in The Guardian.[8]

September 2010 saw the release of the Thank You For Your Love EP which includes covers of Dylan's "Pressing On" and Lennon's "Imagine". The Sun listed Thank You For Your Love as single of the week on August 27, 2010.

Antony and the Johnsons released a 4th album Swanlights on October 12, 2010 through Secretly Canadian and Rough Trade. Simultaneously, Abrams Books published a book edition of Swanlights featuring Antony's drawings and collages with photography by Don Felix Cervantes. Antony and the Johnsons performed "Thank You For Your Love" on both The Late Show with David Letterman and Later With Jools Holland in support of the album’s release. In October 2010 Antony was invited to "takeover" The Guardian's music and arts page that ran for weeks leading up to the release of Swanlights.[9] Stereogum placed Swanlights in its Top 50 Albums of the year at #8.[10]

In tribute to Kazuo Ohno, Antony and the Johnsons performed on October 30, 2010 at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall with the Orchestra of St. Luke's and featured the film "Mr. O's Book Of The Dead" directed by Chiaki Nagano and starring Kazuo Ohno.[11]

In January 2011, Antony was a guest on "Winterguest", a program on Dutch Television's VPRO channel and was interviewed by Leon Verdonschot.

In 2010-2011, the song Her Eyes Are Underneath The Ground from the album The Crying Light was chosen as one of the 5 stimuli that the International Baccalaureate Organization chose for the IB Theatre Arts PPP
